How it works
From confused to coordinated in about ten minutes.
Three steps. No guesswork. You leave with a plan you can act on this week.
Answer the intake
The quick check takes about 60 seconds. Add partner, employer policy, and PTO detail whenever you want. We ask the questions that actually affect your benefits. Not a generic medical history.
What we collect
- State of residence and state of employment (which can differ. Handled as a first-class case)
- Employer name and approximate size (for FMLA eligibility)
- Employment type. W-2, self-employed with state opt-in, owner-employee on payroll, 1099 contractor, or mixed income
- Average weekly wage or pay frequency
- Tenure with current employer (for FMLA eligibility)
- Expected child arrival, adoption, or foster placement date
- PTO and sick balances (used to fill unpaid gaps)
- Short-term disability coverage if you have it
- Whether your partner is also taking leave (and their details, if so)
Optional: upload your HR policy
If your employer publishes a parental leave policy as a PDF or DOCX, drop it in. We extract the weeks of paid leave offered, the percentage of pay, and how it coordinates with state benefits. Stacked, supplemental, or offset. You confirm the extraction is correct before it's used in calculations. Included in Complete and Premium tiers.
See your eligibility and estimate
A modular rules engine evaluates every program that applies to you, in plain English, and shows you the math.
What you see
- Per-program eligibility. Federal FMLA, state PFML, state FMLA equivalents, short-term disability (state-mandated or employer-provided), and your employer's parental leave policy. Each shown as Likely eligible / May be eligible / Appears not eligible based on what you told us.
- Weekly benefit estimate. Calculated using your state's actual bend-point formula (the rules can have two or three income tiers). Pregnancy-complication add-on weeks are surfaced when they apply.
- Claim window. Earliest filing date (often 30 days before your anticipated leave start), latest claim window, and key deadlines for STD pre-filing.
- Every assumption. We show you the formula inputs we used so you can verify them and adjust if needed.
Couples planning
If both parents are taking leave, the joint optimizer (Complete and Premium tiers) generates four scored strategies for sequencing both leaves across one shared timeline:
- Max household weeks of coverage
- Max household dollars
- Max early overlap (both home at first)
- Min unpaid gaps
Each strategy is shown with a household-weeks count, total dollars, overlap weeks, unpaid gap weeks, and a brief explanation of when this strategy makes sense.

Personalized leave plan
- Timeline view. A calendar with every relevant date. Notice to employer, earliest filing date, STD pre-filing, leave start, expected return.
- Documentation checklist. Customized to your state and situation. Birth certificate, employer leave approval, medical certification, direct deposit info, account credentials for your state portal.
- Risk and red-flag callouts. The specific mistakes most parents make, surfaced with what you should do instead.
- Exportable PDF. Print it, attach it to an email, hand it to your partner.
HR email generator
A pre-filled, polite, professional email you can send to your HR team today. It asks the six questions whose answers swing your benefits by thousands of dollars. Particularly the question of whether your employer's policy is stacked, supplemental, or offset with respect to your state program. Polite, precise, non-confrontational; you can edit it before sending.
What we do, and do not do, with your information
- Browser-first. In the current version, your intake answers stay in your browser session. We don't store your wages, employer, or expected delivery date on our servers.
- HR policy uploads. When you upload an HR policy document for analysis, we process it on our servers and delete the document afterward. We don't retain the contents.
- No selling data. We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
- Educational, not advice. This is an educational planning tool, not legal, tax, HR, or financial advice. Always confirm your specific eligibility with your state agency, employer, or a qualified advisor.
